• Liposomes with chlorhexidine (CHX) were incorporated into chitosan hydrogel. CHX-liposomes-in-chitosan hydrogel significantly reduced inflammatory response. inhibited biofilm formation. S. aureus and P. aeruginosa biofilms. Successful treatment of skin infections requires eradication biofilms found in up to 90 % all chronic wounds, causing delayed healing increased morbidity. We hypothesized that boosts the activity liposomally-associated membrane active antimicrobials (MAA) could potentially improve bacterial eradication. Therefore, liposomes (∼300 nm) bearing (CHX; ∼50 μg/mg lipid) as a model MAA The novel CHX-liposomes-in-hydrogel formulation was optimized for therapy.
